As we welcome in 2025, I am celebrating 11 years as a wedding and portrait photographer. The journey has been long and I’m so thankful for everyone who has been a part of it. As a child I carried my camera everywhere. Growing up in a military family, I took a lot of photos to document our travels. I always loved taking wildlife and nature photos. As a senior in high school, I began selling photos as postcards and prints at a local gift shop in Montana. Because I loved working with animals, I started volunteering at the local animal shelter and taking photos at the rodeos. From there things took off. People started asking me to do senior portraits and family sessions. In 2013, I realized that it was my dream to be a professional photographer. I opened the doors to my first studio in 2014. My family and I created sets for Christmas and Easter and my mom helped me with portrait sessions. After a couple of years of running the studio I made the decision to only have a seasonal storefront. Being surrounded by the natural beauty of Montana, I decided to focus on adventure and elopements. My goals continued to evolve and change over the years. In 2017 I pursued fashion and portrait photography in Los Angeles and New York. During this time, I still pushed to grow my business in Montana for weddings and portraits. By 2019 I had hit a slump in my business. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do or who I wanted to be as an artist. Trends were changing and more focus was being put on developing a brand. Being a new mom, I decided to push to become a high end wedding photographer. I was also at a cross roads in my career and I felt pulled to transition my business to the east coast. I slowly began testing the waters to see if I could make the leap. For two years I juggled my business between two markets. Weighing everything it became more and more clear that I was meant to be in Pennsylvania. In 2021, my daughter and I moved and things took off. Suddenly I was busier than I had ever been. The move also allowed me to start fresh and find myself as an artist. I realized that what I loved most was documenting real life. I also realized that in the hustle of building things that I truly valued the slow pace of western life. It made me miss the culture of where I grew up. In 2023 I began pursuing rodeo photography again and I made a push to start working with animals again. While my career and life may have found roots in Pennsylvania I realized that I could celebrate everything that I loved about the west through my work. I find it funny to look back and realize that after a decade things came full circle.
